Chapped lips + vaseline = cold sore? Please help!! ?

I was up at the grand canyon & the wind gave my incredibly chapped lips. When I got home I put a Ton of vaseline on then right before I went to sleep. When I woke up I had a huge cold sore. It was actually on my lip. Usually I get them on the skin next to my lip. Was it the Vaseline??
