How can I overwrite my 1tb internal hdd?

I want to completely start fresh with my PC and Spring is the perfect time. After moving backed up files to an external drive, what is the best way to completely wipe the internal drive clean? I'm talking about overwriting the drive multiple times, so nothing is left. Thanks.
